Does anyone do that for the elderly, on bus or train journeys?

Mostly they are sweet souls and I always offer the seat for them. They are more frail and unsteady on their feet.

Well there is no regular public transportation here, but I would if the situation arose.

I do try to hold doors open for random people and always try to be polite.

No public transport!!!  Shocked You mus tlive right out in sticks then.

We have fairly good public transport, I have to say.

Me too with doors too. It doesn't take anything to just do that does it and be polite. I always chat to people when waiting in a queue or at the bus stop or something. it's nice to do that and it passes the time, nice to be friendly.  Smiley

yes i live out in the sticks.  In the US our transportation industry is a bit different.  Almost everyone has a car and relies on that except in some big cities.  I think it might be a cultural thing.  Although public transport would be nice at times.

We have way too many vehicles on our roads - they are packed out and motorways are constructed with extra lanes fro the purpose of the flow of the traffic goign on - too much though and soemthing will give in the end somehow.

despite the many vehicles, public transport gets used a lot too. Especially trains.

I would do it if it ever came up, but it hasn't.

I saw a couple of youngsters the other day just sitting in seats specifically for the the elderly/disabled/buggys, but they just stayed there when an old lady got on who had a walking stick.

Shame really. hence me posting this thread really. i do feel for them, they get left too often it seems.
